(Read below for more information.) What is Insulin Resistance (or pre-diabetic condition) Younger and younger patients are being diagnosed in recent years. In years past, this was mostly diagnosed in older adults. The patient needs to stay vigilant in taking care of their condition. There is no cure, but a patient can control their type 2 diabetes so well that it seems to disappear, but it hasn’t disappeared. Pills can be used to treat type 2 diabetes, along with diet adjustments and exercise. The pancreas still produces insulin, but the body does not process that insulin correctly. (Read below for more information.) What is Type 2 Diabetes Short-term side effects can be deadly, and long-term side effects are deadly. Very, very, very difficult to control - a daily balancing act of preventing blood sugar highs and lows, a battle that goes on for a lifetime. One day, pancreas transplants might be perfected. Some patients are as young as one month old (infants) at time of diagnosis, but many diagnoses come frequently during the teen years. Not caused by obesity, diet or lack of exercise. Mostly thought to be caused by an autoimmune attack on the pancreas that kills the insulin-producing cells. The pancreas just stops producing insulin so the patient has to take artificial insulin via injections.
